Federal Direct Student Loan Program
The Government is the Lender
The U.S. Department of Education's Federal Direct Student Loan Program provides student loans directly, instead of private lenders being involved, the U.S. government is the lender. The Federal Direct Student Loan Program provides funds for Stafford loans and PLUS loans just like the Federal Family Education Loan Program except the government is the lender not private lenders. The Department of Education allows schools to choose which program best suits the needs of their students. Students can not chose a Federal Direct Student Loan Program if the school has chosen to use the Federal Family Education Loan Program. So its important to check with the school your planing on attending and seeing which program the school supports.
